Community Building Construction Bids returned on several elements on construction of the City/Community Building were much higher than we estimated. In order to build the structure we had planned, without looking for more funds, we have decided to accomplish several elements with volunteer Parkerfield labor. There are many skilled, and available, workers in our city that can help with construction of the Office Area, basic wiring, and other elements. Once the building is up and dried-in, with all doors and windows installed, we will be asking for help. This will not be for several months though. We are close to approving the bids for the dirt work, concrete, building, and building erection. We will keep all posted in future Newsletters.

Community Building Financing We now have $125,000 in the Bank to get the job done. As you have noticed, the 5% Franchise Fee is being applied to your Gas and Electric Bills.

Community Building Donations We are working to complete the Community Building within our budget of $125,000, and expect to get the dirt work, septic, concrete, building, erection, plumbing, electric, HVAC, and office complex completed for under $125,000. However, there are additional items necessary to use the building as we intended. These include office furnishings, tables and chairs for the meeting bay, stove refrigerator-kitchen stuff for the kitchen, and whatever small additional items will be required. We have already received over $3,000 in donations for these items. That's in addition to the generous donation of the land by the Gottlob family. If you would like to make a tax deductible donation toward the completion of the City/Community Building, contact Mayor Mike on 441-0717.

Community Bulletin Board. Contact Steve Jelf at skj@hit.net if you have something to sell, give away, want to buy, or you are available for work or are looking for services.

Census Important Every household should receive a Census Form between March 15th and March 17th. If you do not receive a form, please call Mayor Mike on 441-8216. Please verify in your letter that the City is Parkerfield, not Arkansas City or Cowley County, answer the questions, and mail back to the Census Bureau. Be sure to mail it back, as the amount of Motor Vehicle taxes and Fuel Taxes that the City of Parkerfield receives depends partially on the population of our City. We have 158 residences and around 400 citizens.

Community Building Construction Bid acceptance letters and contracts were sent out the week of March 7th for elements 1-2-3-4-5-6-8, site prep, concrete work, the steel building, building erection, doors and windows, and plumbing, to allow the project to start. We expect the dirt work to begin in mid April and the building to go up late April to early May. Final completion will be May-June, or possibly July. We'll advise when we need help on completion.

Community Building Donations If you would like to make a tax deductible donation toward the completion of the City/Community Building, contact Mayor Mike on 441-0717. Over $3,000.00 has been received to-date. This will cover the furnishings, tables, chairs, etc.

Census The City of Parkerfield accomplished its own Census to ensure all residents were contacted and that all returned their US Census forms. Our tally of the 156 residences indicated around 398 residents. There were 10 residences who said they did not receive a form from the US Census or did not return the form. There were three residences which the US Census did not include in the Parkerfield Address List. We have requested the US Census to send forms to the 10 and to ensure the 3 are included in Parkerfield. Every body counts for fuel tax distribution and other activities. If you did not receive a form in April or a substitute form lately, please call Mayor Mike on 441-8216, so we can get you counted.

Community Building Construction We are waiting for RWD #3 to set the water meter and for Westar to set a service pole for electricity. The base for the building slab is done and the drain lines are in the base. Awaiting good weather to do the concrete slab, so the building, which is on site, can be erected. Kansas weather sure messes up construction.

Chestnut road work The major mud hole in front of Mrs. Hughes home on Chestnut has hopefully been eliminated. A month ago, a major rain left a 6-12 inch lake on Chestnut. The Township road crew, led by Mike Ledbetter did a major job to raise the road in that area and to correct the drainage. They dumped and sculpted much gravel and base material. Thanks to them for a good prompt repair.

Oaklawn Road Signs We have signs on order for the intersections of Oaklawn Drive and Birch Avenue and for the intersection of Oaklawn Drive and Oaklawn Court. The Township will install the signs when they arrive.

Community Building Donations If you would like to make a tax deductible donation toward the completion of the City/Community Building, contact Mayor Mike on 441-0717. Over $3,000.00 has been received to-date. This will cover the furnishings, tables, chairs, etc.
